3 Day Walk for the Cure | Fitzgerald Photography

I can’t believe it.  After almost 8 months of training, the 3 Day Walk for the Cure is almost here. I am so nervous and excited for everything I will feel physically and emotionally in these three days.

Friday: Approximately 22.1 miles
It will begin with an emotional Opening Ceremony at Northbrook Court, where we’ll gather together to pay tribute to the many women and men who have lost their battle with breast cancer, and honor the survivors. We’ll remember the reason we’re walking as we make our way through several beautiful northern communities of the greater Chicago area. You will pass through the Chicago Botanic Garden and into Winnetka, Kenilworth and Wilmette with views of Lake Michigan along the way. The latter part of the day will be interspersed with great parks as we make our way into camp.

Saturday: Approximately 19.5 miles
On Saturday morning, we’ll rise and shine, ready to hit the trail. This second day of walking will meander through various neighborhoods northwest of Chicago. Enjoy the community support as we pass through towns including Des Plaines, Mt. Prospect and Arlington Heights and work our way back towards camp for another night of community, camaraderie and fun.

Sunday: Approximately 17 miles
The final day of our journey will lead you from Lincolnwood into the city of Chicago. Lake Michigan and the many parks along its shores will provide a beautiful setting to head towards the skyline of the city. Passing through Lincoln Park and along the waterfront, you will encounter such landmarks as Navy Pier, the Buckingham Fountain, Shedd Aquarium and more. Then it’s on to your final destination, Soldier Field, to join family and friends for a celebratory Closing Ceremony.

As one walker said, “It’s a challenge, but its worth it.   It’s worth every step, every blister and every pain to know that you can do something to save someone else’s life, maybe even your own. “

I cannot wait to walk.  Thank you to all my friends and family who have donated.  In just eight months, I have raised $2,500 dollars for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.  Thank you all for your emotional support as well.   This will be powerful, emotional, and amazing.

I love you all.

xoxo Mallory
